The choristers of Wells Cathedral play an active part in the day-to-day worship at the heart of the Cathedral's life. The Trust wants to be able to help girls of significant ability fromall backgrounds to enjoy the benefits of a choral education. No girlshould be barred from this opportunity on financial grounds. To achieve our parity with the boys, the Trust now needs to provideeach girl chorister with 45 per cent of the Cathedral School fee in theform of a bursary. This means raising £2 million to establish a permanent endowment fund. The income from this fund will secure the long-term future of girl choristers at Wells. Please help the Trust to reach its goal by completing and returning theattached donor form. You can also add nearly 30 per cent to the valueof your gift by making your contribution under the Gift Aid Scheme. Specialist musicians at Wells are able to develop their talents tothe full within a normal school environment. Students reach the highestlevels of professional performance and many go on to a career in music.Their training and musical education are expensive. While the boys havetraditionally received bursaries from the Cathedral Chapter, theCathedral cannot provide additional resources to support the girlswithout your help. The Wells Cathedral Girl Chorister Trust, a registered andindependent charity, has been established with the sole purpose ofraising capital funds to provide the girl choristers with bursariesequal to those given to the boys. This means raising £2 million toestablish a permanent endowment fund. You may ask, "Why should I give to the WCGCT, when there are manycharities in the world actively devoted to alleviating poverty, hunger, homelessness and disease. Can girl choristers really have a legitimateclaim on my money?" The answer is "yes"
