At a concert held to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the girl choir at Wells, international soprano Dame Emma Kirkby DBE said: "It's a pleasure to be here. When I first met the girls, they were so friendly and enthusiastic. I think they sing beautifully and, if anything, they are even better now. It's lucky for any child to grow up in this atmosphere. This City and its Cathedral are magical."

With your support, the Trust will be able to offer the girl choristers funding equal to that received by the boys. We propose to raise £110,000 per annum to achieve this objective.

We need this money because the typical costs for a girl chorister are:

  • £30,000 for a five year bursary;
  • £7,500 for boarding for a year;
  • £4,000 for tuition for a term;
  • £1,600 for the hire of instruments for all the girl choristers for a year;
  • £1,200 for a girl chorister to have one music lesson every week for a year;
  • £1,000 for accommodation for four choristers for a week;
  • £200 for the cassocks, surplices and ruffs worn by the girl choristers in the Cathedral

Become a corporate benefactor by giving generously to this appeal. Your donation will be acknowledged in the Trust’s Annual Report. Corporate entertainment will also be available on an appropriate scale. Your company name and logo will appear in concert programmes produced by the Trust. You will also be invited to special functions and other events.

Preserving this essentially English tradition of cathedral choral music is a worthwhile cause. Your contributions will prove invaluable.

Donations should be made payable to WCGCT, include your full company name and address and be sent to:
